Looking for a lovable boxer puppy in the Atlanta Georgia area? You are not alone. Boxers are one of the most popular dog breeds in the state of Georgia. It makes sense, what’s not to love? Boxers are not considered adults until they are three years old. That means that boxers are puppies longer than almost any other dog breed. They can look intimidating because of their broad chest and size, but they are one of the most loving and kind dogs known to man. Simply put, if you do not want a boxer puppy, you should.
The boxer breed originated in Germany. The boxer we know today has a very rich history that can be traced back to one female. The first boxer came to the U.S. in the early 1900’s. During the First World War boxers were actually enlisted into the military. They were used as guard and attack dogs. They were also used as messenger dogs and pack dogs. Their involvement and bravery in World War I is truly fascinating. Many soldiers would go on to claim that a Boxer had saved their life. Boxers truly started to gain popularity when the appreciative soldiers came home and brought their new best friends with them.
LIFESPAN – A boxer typically lives 10 to 12 years on average.
ACTIVITY LEVEL – High – Boxers are an excited breed. They love to run around. You will want to make time to spend playing with your boxer each day. You will find that you will likely have as much fun as they do during playtime. When a boxer gets excited when playing it will bring its rear-end forward towards head making its body curl. They will almost run sideways. Those who have never seen a boxer playing before always find it humorous. They are incredibly goofy.
POTENTIAL HEIGHT – 21 to 25 inches tall at their shoulders
POTENTIAL WEIGHT – 55 to 75 pounds.
BARKING – Low – Boxers are not known to be heavy barkers. However they will be more than happy to bark when someone knocks on the door or rings the doorbell. They make great guard dogs because they have a deep bark. Also you should not be surprised if your Boxer is able to pull off a surprisingly accurate Chewbacca sound. (It is surprisingly common with the breed)
SHEDDING –Low – Boxers do shed but they have very short hair which is not very noticeable. A high-grade food will make a huge difference for your boxer. High quality food will reduce shedding. Additionally, you will likely find your boxer has a sensitive stomach. It can be a trial and error process finding the right food that they like and will be easy enough on their stomach.
FAMILY FRIENDLY – Definitely – It would be a challenge to find a breed that was more family friendly. If you have a toddler, don’t be surprised if they use the boxer as a stepping stool. Boxers are truly one of the best family dogs there are.
PET-FRIENDLY – Definitely – Boxers love other dogs and are extremely tolerant. However, they may get jealous especially when it comes to food. Make sure you feed both dogs at the same time in separate areas.
